The Bachelor of Fine Arts degree program in Interior Design helps students attain a strong foundation of knowledge and basic skills in all areas of interior design. Through a hands-on, real-world approach to education you?ll expand that base with studies in art history, cultural studies, the decorative arts, and materials - textiles, furnishings, lighting, and more. You?ll be introduced to 2-D and 3-D design, as well as computer-aided drafting techniques like AutoCAD while discovering that ergonomics, renovation, architecture, psychology, and the business side of this profession.

You can also meet great contacts by joining your local student chapter of the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID), the largest organization of interior designers in the world. In your final quarter, you?ll see your hard work come together in your professionally assembled portfolio, one of the most important tools you have to show potential employers just how talented you are!

Mission:

The Interior Design program goal for the BFA program is to prepare students for creative, professional interior design careers where information is gathered and synthesized to lead to the creation of a well-designed, healthful and functional environment that supports human interaction and activity.

This goal is achieved through:

• Emphasizing interpersonal and time management skills in conjunction with topics of a creative and/or technical nature,
• Providing students with realistic expectations of the workplace,
• Demonstrating the importance of research through problem-solving scenarios,
• Articulating the need for continuing education in a career that is ever-changing due to the evolution of technology and materials,
• Preparing graduates to work in a variety of interior design environments.
Career Opportunities:
Bachelor of Fine Arts program graduates are prepared to seek entry-level positions in a variety of interior design environments, such as kitchen and bath design, custom accessory design, in-house design for corporations, restaurant design, in-house hospital design, wall covering design, furniture design, residential design, adaptive re-use and work place design.
